In 1981, a housewife who loves cooking, named Murniati Widjaja, participated in an es teler making competition. Murniati loves cooking. With her mix of fresh jackfruit, coconut meat and avocado pieces, topped with shaved ice and the special secret syrup. Murniati won the competition with the title Indonesian champion
This winning moment gave the family an idea to open a modest food stall on the terrace of a shopping centre in Central Jakarta, Duta Merlin. This first stall was managed by the couple, Murniati Widjaja with her husband, Trisno Budianto, together with their daughter, Yenny Setia, and her husband, the late Sukyatno Nugroho. Armed with great cooking skills, mother-daughter team, were hands-on creating the recipes, that have become the menu today.
Soon, the stall with distinctive green and bright yellow paint became more popular, raised interests for business opportunities. Franchise business concept was not well-known at that time. The late Sukyatno Nugrogho, with his business instinct, self-learned the concept. 1987 marked as milestone in Es Teler 77 history, where the first franchised outlet opened in Solo. This moment made Es Teler 77 to become the first Indonesian fast-food business using franchise system.
Es Teler 77 continued to spread its wings, not just in Indonesia but also overseas. The first overseas outlet was opened in Singapore in 1988
In its 18th year, Es Teler 77 opened its outlet in Melbourne, Australia. The outlet was situated in a main thoroughfare, Swasnston Street. The outlet attracted many regular customers, not only Indonesian, but also Australians who enjoyed the food and beverage offered.
Es Teler 77 operates under the auspices of PT Top Food Indonesia. With more than 140 outlets spread across Indonesia and abroad, making it one of the largest franchise businesses in Indonesia.
